After equipping the Van, head out from Rocco and snake your way through the
trees heading northeast to the beach. You might find that you cannot go any
further because the tide is up. If that's so, just rest for a night in Rocco.
You'll find a hole leading to a cave on the south side of the lone tree on the
beach. Enter here and drive down the ramp to the next level. Head left along
the only path. You'll encounter the familiar Octopus Tank enemies here, but
they appear in large groups of up to 8! You'll also find an upgraded type of
octopus that's green and inflicts acid status on your tanks making them lose
SP continually. (Remember to cure this status with the tank tool :
アルカリワックス - Alkali Wax.) At the end of the passage, drive down the cave
to find a wooden chest that contains a useful Sub gun tank weapon
[9ミリきかんほう] - 9MM CANNON, which you will probably want to equip to the
Van.

Take the ramp up to the next floor and the passage is blocked with a statue.
Simply drive up against it, pushing all the way down, to end up outside the
cave at a small shrine. Leave the shrine and drive due west, where you'll find
a Supply Shed with lots of Vending Machines in case you need to stock up or
refill your tanks' SP and shells.

The two men give directions to the nearest town. After shopping, drive north
and you'll encounter another earthquake! A bit further north and you'll find
more Gold Ants that give plentiful gold, and Iron Ants that give generous
amounts of experience but only 1 Gold each! Freeza town is further north, next
to a frozen lake.

OUTER TOWN
Shell Shop, Tank Rental, Refill Station, Inn (10G), Massage, Tool Shop,
Equipment Shop.

Enter the town and the first thing you'll notice is that the buildings are
scattered around on ice although you can only see a short distance. Drive
right and face the small garage building and slide forwards across the ice to
reach it. Talk to the person at the left counter to add shells to weapons. The
second person at the left counter is the Rental shop with three tanks on
offer. Talk to the person at the right to refill SP.

Slide back to the shore of the frozen lake and head right. You can walk or
drive, sliding up to the Inn, although you cannot take your tanks inside, so
it's best to walk. There are a few people to talk to and a massage man
available. I think the people tell you about the monster under the town and a
tall building to the north east, at least, they did in Metal Max Returns!

Back on the shore, drive to the point where you're facing the garage entrance
and turn left. Slide left across the ice and you'll end up on the grass below
a single tree and next to an area that's not accessible for tanks. Get out of
the your tanks and walk to the door of the Equipment Shop..You can buy some
excellent stuff here including a much better body armour and protector as well
as more powerful weapons. The Tools Shop sells the better Metal Detector that
allows you to search for a wider area on the world map. However, you won't be
doing any on foot fighting here, so it's wise to save your money for tank
weapons until you have gained the next bounty.

To access the main town, drive your tanks to face north on a patch of darker
green, one square to the left of the Garage building. You should be facing a
tree when you slide forwards. At the tree, turn left and slide again to stop
at another tree. Turn up and slide forwards through the middle doors of the
large building.

INNER TOWN
Tank Tool Shop, Tank Parts Shop, Memory Centre, Bar, Hunter's Office,
Inn (10G), Massage.

1. Floor 5
----------
You'll arrive at Floor 5 and most of the rest of the building is underground.
Apart from a few areas on this floor you can stay inside your tanks and drive
down to the other floors using the elevator at the left. First of all get out
of the tanks and walk up the right corridor and climb the stairs to the roof
where you should talk to the man here. (In MMR that triggered a scene later
on, so it's advisable to do that just in case.)

On Floor 5 the top left counter sells Tank Tools including the valuable
Medical Kit that will let your characters heal up from the tank, although
eventually it will break. (Select the Tool command and the tank that has it
and you'll be asked to choose the person you want to heal.) The lower left
shop stocks all the tank parts and if you want to improve everything that's
going to cost a hefty amount. At least buy a better Main Gun for one tank if
that's all you can afford. The man at the back of the central area runs the
Auto Repair shop. The wanted posters and memory centre are at the right of the
floor and the Hunter's Office is at the back, behind the tank stop if you need
to claim a bounty. Enter the elevator at the left and you can take your tanks
down to the other floors.

2. Floor 4
----------
You'll find the bar here and can buy a selection of cheap drinks. One man
mentions something about TNT and about a man called Tumack and his wife and
daughter. At the back of the floor to the right there's a massage man charging
10G per round, and another very cheap inn costing 10G per person.

3. Floor 3
----------
Using the stairs from Floor 4 you can access the transport machine on this
floor but you cannot go any lower as the stairs are covered in ice. Use your
tanks to reach the rest of this floor by selecting 3F from the elevator. Drive
right and up through the first of two openings and you'll slide across an icy
floor. Open the wooden box in the top left corner to find a tank tool:
[かんきそうち] - VENTILATOR. This will go in the Tools inventory of whichever
tank Hunter is driving. This is a tool that activates automatically and you
don't need to do anything to switch it on. The fridges arranged on the icy
part of the floor don't contain anything, at least, the only one you can reach
is empty so don't bother sliding around here after getting the tank tool.

4. Floor 2
----------
Drive up the middle of this floor and turn between the two benches to face
right. (The fridges here are also empty.) Slide right, between the first two
rows of meat to reach the right corridor. Drive down to the section of floor
that isn't iced and then right. Turn up, so you're facing the open doorway and
drive/slide through. Keep to the right of the icy room and drive down the ramp
to the lower floor.

5. Floor 1
----------
Slide down the path and you'll see a large beast waiting next to a wooden
crate. This is the Mammoth Tusk bounty enemy! Slide left along the lower part
of the floor and then up to the top. Slide right, and turn down the room, and
you should be directly opposite the monster. Slide down to encounter the
beast! Well, you have to talk to it first...

It freezes all your tanks if you don't have a tank tool equipped to prevent
that, but it doesn't seem to stop you from firing guns and the status will
wear off after a while. Its main attack targets everyone but that doesn't do
much damage: a maximum of around 7 SP and usually less than that. Once in a
while it might do a more powerful strike on one, but there's a way to prevent
that.

I used SE guns until they ran out of ammunition. The TNT SE gun inflicted 114
damage to the Mammoth, which was reassuring, with the ATM doing about half
that. Auto guns will hardly dent it at all and shells don't do much damage,
but armour piercing shells will disable it completely, preventing an attack.
You really need the powerful Main gun you can buy in Freeza or this battle
will take a while... One other strategy is to fight with one person on foot,
and protect them with a tank. A Blaze Bottle is especially effective making
the monster lose around 15-30 HP for each turn for the rest of the battle
after you've thrown it. (My team were levels 15/15/13)

After defeating it, move down one pace with the tank and turn right to examine
the crate. You'll find the item [マンモスのキバ] - MAMMOTH TUSK which isn't a
Tank Tool in this game, but an ordinary Tool, so it will go to the first
available item slot for a character. To get out of here just return the way
you came OR use the Dog System and select Freeza to be deposited outside the
town on the world map. Return to the Hunter's Office to claim the bounty and
spend the gold on better equipment.

TANK 5 : [パンサー] - PANTHER/PANZA TANK!

Drive north from Freeza and over the bridge, and head through the islands in
between the sand to the east and up a slope to a hut. This is a Supply Shed
and if you talk to the man inside you can get a little more information about
the Corona Building, your next destination, but it's not essential There's
also a cave to the north of the shed, just to the west of it and you'll find
nothing in here besides two people, one of whom suggests you use a Metal
Detector. The supply shed has some Vending Machines and a handy shop.

Drive around the supply shed hugging the wall and you can explore the area
behind it where there's a ramp leading down into a hole in the ground. Drive
down to the southeast wall of the cave and use your Metal Detector. You'll
find a free Main Gun in the square one in from the southeast corner: the
[105ミリキャノン] - 105MM CANNON.

If you just want to continue with the story make your way around to the east
of the hill with the shed and follow the narrow coastal path back to the west,
until you can drive south again. Then, head up the small ramp on the western
hillock and you'll spot a tarmac bridge. Cross over, staying to the north side
of the land and you'll end up at the Corona Building.

BEACH CAVE
----------
To reach the cave, head east along the beach and keep going east when you
discover a narrow spit of sand stretching out into the sea. At the far end is
a small hillock with a cave opening. It's possible to miss this out as the
cave is a dead end, but it contains some valuable tank parts as well as
another tank!

Floor 1
Drive up the cave and then down at the first turning into a small empty cave,
not going down the ramp for now. (You might set off some mines as you proceed,
and that will damage the tanks.) Either use a Mine Detector or just use the
Examine command in the middle of the cave, one step south from the plant.
You'll pick up a tank part: [ウォズニアクII] - WOZNIAK 11 which is a better
C Unit than the Hal900, so equip this immediately. If you're losing too much
SP then retreat, and sort out tank equipment again, adding Armour Tiles and
replacing shells.

Basement 1 - 3 Finding a Tank!
Head down the ramp and drive down and then, all the way left along the narrow
path and then, up and right, to get to the next ramp down to Basement 3. This
time, head down and right, and keep going a short way into an apparently empty
cave until you have to stop. Use the Metal Detector and you'll see a red flash
and find the [パンサー] - PANTHER/PANZA TANK! It's buried just two steps to
the west of the eastern wall of the cave. There is also another item:
[タイルパック80] - 80 TILE PACK, buried by the straight south wall of the cave.
"Examine" the tank to claim it and do so again to tow the tank after claiming
and naming. I transferred the main gun to my Van which still had a much weaker
one. The nice thing about the Panza in this version of the game is that it
doesn't come loaded down with 4 lots of Lead Mushrooms, but it does have a
major disadvantage. It has 0 SP and you cannot add any SP to it at all, but
that's because it's very heavy! Equip it with a better engine to increase the
load it can carry and add the lightest weapons and it's not a bad tank
although its SP will always be pretty low. You could use the tank as a towed
vehicle so it can carry spare stuff for you.

By the way, I've called it the Panza because it fits in the naming screen,
although you might expect it to be called the Panther. It's a Panzer tank and
they had both these names, with the Tiger being the more powerful version. (In
MMR this was called a Tiger which confused me a bit, as a later tank in Metal
Max has that name too, and I named it Tiger, mistakenly, if anyone looks at
the screenshots.) Another point about this tank is that it has a Main Gun
already equipped [95ミリほう] - 95MM GUN, but you'd have to pay for a Sub Gun
and SE gun slot at the trader camp in Rocco. It costs 3133 G for an SE slot
and 2350 G for a Sub Gun.

After this I used the Dog System to leave and sort out my tanks again, before
returning to pick up an engine for the Panza. The enemies on the second
floor seem to come in larger numbers and are more difficult to kill off unless
you have some SE ammunition left. Remember to head back to Riorado to get any
damaged tank parts mended for free by Dad.

Basement 2
From the first floor take the closest ramp down and drive left to where you
see some plants and water. Stop between the plants and the north wall and use
the Metal Detector. You'll find the [V24ハルク] - V24 HULK engine.
